Local media cover the Chicago Public Schools efforts to improve learning outcomes,
but they have not gone into detail about the reasons for poor performance. They have not
given readers the chance to "get involved" at nearby tutoring/mentoring programs.

These maps show "failing" school data against a backdrop of a neighborhood's racial makeup.
This was done by taking the 2000 Census' population numbers and calculating percentages
within tracts. At the same time, a flag was created in the data that indicates which racial
group constitutes a tract's "majority."
